Meeting the little girl singer on the streets (our first student)

On the morning of 17th September, Tina, an officer from the UN and I went to the Waterfront and walked amid the hustle-bustle and street vendors. We found a little girl, wearing a hat far larger than her head, singing a native song and selling corn as pigeon-feed to the tourists. The officer said if she is not rescued she will probably end up an underage prostitute like many young girls like her. It was heart-breaking to see her like that, alone on the streets. I asked the officer to look out for her until we had returned to Cambodia. I took a picture of her (below) and told her that we will come back. She said “O.K!”
